A dedicated organization that provides comprehensive services to children, adolescents, and young adults facing a range of challenges, including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral issues, and psychiatric disorders is seeking a Mental Health Technician.
As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, stabilization, and treatment of children and adolescents. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team—including psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and families—to deliver trauma-informed care, facilitate treatment plans, and prepare individuals for a successful return to their communities or lesser levels of care.
Children admitted to our programs often present with diagnoses such as suicidal behaviors, self-injury, aggression, depression, psychosis, autism spectrum disorders, or substance-related issues. Stays typically range from 3 to 21 days.
What Your Day Looks Like:
- Provide direct care and supervision to individuals in crisis, ensuring their safety and emotional well-being.
- Support treatment plans, including participating in skills groups (e.g., Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
- Foster a compassionate and supportive environment to help patients feel understood, respected, and valued.
- Use active listening and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and promote emotional regulation.
- Assist with day-to-day activities, including mealtime, recreational programming, and personal care as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the treatment team and families to support individualized care and discharge planning.
- Adhere to established protocols for safety and crisis intervention.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
What You Bring:
- High school diploma and 2 years of direct care experience
OR - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with 12+ credit hours in a human services field (e.g., psychology, sociology, social work, education, criminal justice).
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience working with youth with behavioral health needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with patients, families, and team members.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or crisis situations.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping individuals with mental health and behavioral challenges.
