Employment Type: Contract to Hire
Schedule: 8am-4:30pm, Flexibility with Days, Mon-Fri or Sun-Thurs
Our client is seeking a skilled Inpatient Coder III to join our team. This fully remote position offers a flexible schedule and opportunities for professional growth in a supportive and dynamic healthcare environment. The Inpatient Coder III reports to the Supervisor of Coding and is responsible for accurately coding inpatient and/or interventional radiology (IVR) medical records. This role ensures compliance with Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and Facility Coding Guidelines, contributing to the organization's billing goals.
What Your Day Looks Like:
- Review inpatient and IVR medical records and complete coding for 14–16 charts per 8-hour shift (approx. 25 minutes per chart).
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnostic, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and HCPCS procedural codes with specificity.
- Ensure accurate DRG/APC assignment per coding guidelines.
- Abstract demographic and coding information into the EMR accurately and completely.
- Query providers for clarification when needed to assign codes.
- Manage and resolve coding edits, reminders, and other issues within 1–2 business days.
- Assist with backlogged accounts and ensure timely case coding, meeting productivity guidelines.
- Mentor new coders and support various coding tasks (observation, outpatient, emergency coding, etc.) as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of anatomy and physiology coursework.
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care inpatient and/or IVR coding experience.
- Consistent coding accuracy of 85% or higher in previous roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to work remotely.
- Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
- AAPC certification preferred.
