A medical practice is seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join the team. This role is essential to delivering high-quality patient care and technical support.
The Phlebotomist will focus on both patient care and technical tasks. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy and processing specimens, as well as coordinating laboratory activities and administering medications. Additional duties involve assisting with patient intake and maintaining patient rooms and supplies. The role involves direct patient care under the direction of the practice providers, including triage, education, and support for clinical procedures.
What Your Day Looks Like:
General, Clinical, and Administrative Duties:
- Greet patients and visitors with courtesy and professionalism.
- Report to work punctually and maintain a professional appearance.
- Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and provide outstanding service.
- Serve as an ambassador for the practice, ensuring patients feel welcomed and valued.
- Utilize Athenahealth Electronic Health Record (EHR) system effectively.
- Stay updated on medical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing relevant publications.
- Verify patient information prior to care or phone encounters.
- Perform blood draws, obtain urine specimens, and process lab orders as directed by providers.
- Administer medications and injections (subcutaneous and intramuscular) as ordered.
- Conduct preliminary physical tests, including blood pressure, weight, and temperature measurements.
- Prepare patients for exams and assist with procedures such as pellet therapy, PRP, wound care, and hydration.
- Communicate provider orders and plans to patients and address their questions.
- Check and address clinical staff voice messages promptly.
- Scan and document medical reports such as EKGs, spirometry, and BIA results.
- Maintain an organized and secure supply closet.
- Address task box items promptly and efficiently.
Laboratory Functions:
- Manage lab schedules and prepare for the following day’s patients.
- Print lab orders and process insurance cards for lab work.
- Package and process specimens for external labs and coordinate lab pickups.
- Instruct patients on completing specialty test kits.
- Order and manage lab and IV-related supplies.
Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to established standards, policies, and legal regulations.
- Keep patient information confidential and comply with infection control protocols.
Other Duties as Assigned.
What You Bring:
- Required: Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Technical School Diploma or Certificate in Medical Assisting and/or Phlebotomy.
- Preferred: Certified Phlebotomist and/or Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT).
- Preferred: Minimum of 1 year in a family, internal, or functional medical practice or hospital setting.
- Familiarity with Athenahealth EMR is advantageous.
- Strong customer service focus.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure a safe, effective environment.
- Proficiency in scheduling, supply management, infection control, and teamwork.
