A leading healthcare provider in North Carolina is seeking a Remote Coding Data Analyst to support inpatient and interventional radiology (IVR) medical coding functions. Must have DRG and APC coding experience. This position is part-time, requiring 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a flexible 4-hour daily schedule.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute expertise in coding accuracy and compliance while working remotely in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What Your Day Brings:

  • Review documentation in inpatient and/or IVR medical records with an expectation of coding approximately 14-16 charts per 8-hour day (equivalent to 25 minutes per chart).
  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes and ICD-10-PCS/CPT-4 HCPCS procedural codes to the highest specificity.
  • Assign the most accurate DRG/APC as appropriate, following Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and Facility Coding Guidelines.
  • Abstract demographic and coding information accurately and completely into the EMR.
  • Ensure the correct assignment of DRG/APC and meet established productivity standards.
  • Query providers as necessary for clarification to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Provide mentorship to new coders.
  • Assist in resolving missing documentation and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Support outpatient, same-day surgery, emergency department, and observation coding as required.

Assist with achieving Candidate for Bill (CFB) goals by:

  • Resolving coding edits and reminders within 1-2 business days.
  • Correcting abstracting and coding issues in a timely manner.
  • Completing and routing problem accounts, high-dollar accounts, and other necessary coding tasks daily.
  • Supporting backlog and unassigned coding cases as needed.

Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • DRG & APC coding experience required.
  • Must have own computer/laptop.
  • Completion of anatomy and physiology coursework required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of acute care inpatient and/or IVR coding experience required.
  • Must maintain an accuracy rate of 85% or higher in abstracting, coding, and DRG assignment while meeting productivity requirements.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency in computer and data entry tasks.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with healthcare team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Certified Professional Coder – Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • AAPC certification preferred
