Location: Remote, Must live in Washington State 
Employment Type: Contract, Approx 2-3 Months  
  
For over 30 years, our client has been working tirelessly to expand access and availability to homes and quality community services to Washington State residents. Often, they will partner with organizations across the state to fight back on rising rents and help build additional homes for low-income families across the state. 

   

As the FHA Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and re-underwriting closed loan files to ensure compliance with FHA guidelines and regulatory standards. This role focuses on post-closing quality control in a back-office environment, with no time-sensitive closing pressures. You will evaluate borrower financials, documentation, and eligibility, while also supporting specialized homeownership programs through the review of family history and related materials. Additional responsibilities include assisting with underwriting-related tasks and reviewing down payment assistance loans as needed. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Underwrite loan files to FHA and regulatory standards  

  • Perform post-closing quality control 

  • Underwrite and approve residential loan files, ensuring accuracy and guideline compliance  

  • Review borrower financials, credit, and documentation to assess loan eligibility  

  • Evaluate and approve family history documentation for specialized homeownership programs  

  • Audit files and make necessary corrections to meet quality and compliance requirements  

  • Support homeownership program reviews and general underwriting-related activities  

  • Review and approve down payment assistance loans as needed  

  • Document underwriting decisions and collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies  

  • Other duties as assigned  

  

Qualifications  

  • 1–2 years of underwriting experience preferred  

  • Prior experience reviewing and analyzing loan files strongly preferred  

  • Working knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines and documentation requirements  

  • Experience in a mortgage lending environment, particularly in processing or underwriting functions  

  • Ability to accurately assess borrower information, financials, and supporting documentation  

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills  

  • Capable of handling file reviews in a structured, back-office environment  

  • Processing-only experience may be considered for limited support responsibilities, but underwriting experience is required for core functions
