Pay Rate: $45-50/hour, DOE
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Contract-to-hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM (prefer PST, MST or CDT)

The Leave of Absence Manager leads and develops a small team while overseeing the administration of U.S. leave of absence programs and emerging Canadian leave policies. The position partners closely with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and business leaders to deliver a compliant, high-touch employee experience across ~200 active cases, while ensuring policies align with evolving regulations. Additionally, it drives process improvements through technology, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of 3 (2 Specialists and 1 Analyst), ensuring clarity, consistency, and professional development.

Oversee administration of all U.S. LOA programs (FMLA, state-specific leaves, ADA, company leave policies).

Partner with HR and business leaders to ensure a high-touch employee experience throughout LOA and time-off processes (~200 active LOA cases at a time).

Manage and enhance time-off program policies; ensure compliance with evolving state and federal regulations.

Serve as the emerging Canadian SME, staying ahead of legislation and adjusting programs as needed to ensure compliance across provinces.

Collaborate with Benefits, HR Operations, and Payroll teams to align policies, processes, and systems.

Monitor, measure, and continuously improve processes using ticketing systems and reporting tools.

Ensure timely, accurate case management and communication with employees and stakeholders.

Leverage technology (UKG experience strongly preferred) to streamline administration and reporting.

Qualifications
-
5+ years of people management experience leading credentialed LOA or benefits teams in a mid-to-large corporate environment (required).

Hands-on experience managing U.S. LOA and time-off programs; strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws.

Familiarity with Canadian time-off/legislative frameworks; interest in building SME-level knowledge in this area.

Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (~200 concurrent LOA cases).

Demonstrated success coaching, mentoring, and stabilizing teams through change.

Strong collaboration and communication skills with a “roll up your sleeves” mentality.

Deep experience with HRIS/ticketing systems; UKG expertise strongly preferred.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at balancing compliance with employee experience.
