The Credentialing Coordinator oversees the end-to-end process of verifying and maintaining provider credentials to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. This role reviews applications, confirms qualifications through primary source verification, and manages accurate provider records within the credentialing system. The Specialist also supports new provider onboarding, coordinates committee review activities, and prepares related reports and documentation. Through attention to detail and strong communication, this position helps maintain the integrity and efficiency of the credentialing program. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Manage all aspects of the provider application process, including initial credentialing and reappointment, ensuring applications meet established eligibility criteria and are complete and accurate. 

  • Verify all required credentials through primary source verification, including licensure, sanction activity, DEA certification, work history, professional liability coverage, education, training, board certification, hospital privileges, disciplinary history, NPDB query, and professional references. 

  • Maintain accurate and organized provider files, ensuring all documentation is complete, properly signed, and securely stored. 

  • Communicate with applicants and their staff to provide orientation, education, and assistance throughout the onboarding and credentialing process. 

  • Participate in facility needs assessments to determine eligibility and report findings to management in accordance with policy. 

  • Coordinate credentialing committee activities, including preparing and distributing reports, agendas, applicant profiles, and meeting materials. 

  • Attend committee meetings, record and draft minutes, and distribute them for review and approval. 

  • Enter and maintain credentialing information in the designated software system, ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and security through proper documentation and access controls. 

  • Other duties as assigned  

  

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required 

  • 5 Years Experience Required 

  • CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist) Certification or NAMSS (National Association of Medical Staff Services) Certification Required 

  • Professional Written and Verbal Communication Skills
