Pay Rate: $32.87/hour
Location: Onsite or Hybrid – Seattle, WA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (Tuesday–Saturday possible)
Employment Type: Contract 6-month Assgnment
Our client is seeking an Accounts Payable Representative to support a public-sector housing authority. This role performs a variety of responsible accounting duties related to assigned programs and accounts, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and collaboration across departments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a regulated, compliance-driven environment.
- Perform responsible accounting duties for assigned programs and accounts
- Prepare, process, and maintain financial, statistical, and accounting records
- Monitor and analyze general ledger activity for accuracy
- Prepare and post journal entries and adjusting entries
- Reconcile accounts for programs, grants, departments, and bank accounts
- Maintain budgets and prepare itemized financial reports
- Research invoices, process payments, and prepare check requests
- Ensure transactions comply with internal policies, timelines, vendor terms, and HUD regulations
- Assist with preparation of SHA, State, and HUD financial and statistical reports
- Track and maintain financial data for assigned grants
- Monitor cash flow and help maintain database integrity
- Coordinate with internal staff, vendors, banks, auditors, and HUD representatives
- Respond to inquiries professionally and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with special projects, financial statements, and ad hoc reports
- Participate in continuous improvement and support department goals
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Experience
- 3+ years of accounting experience maintaining automated financial and statistical records
- Two years of college-level coursework in accounting
(An additional two years of relevant experience may substitute for education)
- Knowledge of accounting practices, procedures, and record-keeping
- Experience with general ledger reconciliation and AP/AR transactions
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work confidentially with discretion
- Professional, courteous interpersonal skills
- Comfort working in a public-sector or compliance-focused environment
- Office-based setting
- Extended periods of sitting or standing
- Frequent computer and calculator use
- Occasional interaction with dissatisfied or difficult individuals
