The Medical Supply Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment to support safe patient care. This role ensures all instruments and case carts are prepared accurately and in accordance with manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), infection control standards, and regulatory guidelines. The technician supports multiple surgical and procedural specialties, including minimally invasive services, while maintaining accurate documentation and inventory control. The position plays a critical role in maintaining sterile processing operations, quality assurance, and overall operating room readiness. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment according to manufacturer IFUs and infection control standards. 

  • Inspect, assemble, test, and package instrument trays for multiple surgical specialties (General, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, Urology, etc.). 

  • Build and stage case carts for scheduled, add-on, and emergency procedures. 

  • Operate sterile processing equipment including washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, steam sterilizers, and low-temperature sterilization systems (e.g., Sterrad, V-Pro Max). 

  • Utilize instrument tracking systems to document tray assembly, sterilization cycles, and case cart accuracy. 

  • Reprocess endoscopic devices and maintain required Cidex/AER documentation logs. 

  • Maintain inventory levels and ensure cleanliness and organization of sterile processing areas. 

  • Support MIS procedures and instrument reprocessing across perioperative and procedural departments. 

  • Adhere to safety, regulatory, and quality standards; participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives 

• Other duties as assigned  

  

Qualifications  

  • Minimum one (1) year of sterile processing experience required; Surgical Technician experience may be considered in lieu of direct SPS experience. 

  • Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, reusable medical equipment (RME), and surgical procedures/instrumentation. 

  • Ability to independently perform core sterile processing functions, including decontamination, instrument assembly, and sterilization. 

  • Familiarity with infection control standards and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs). 

  • Certification preferred but not required: HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM) or CBSPD. 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
