Our client is a well-established dermatology practice located in South Charleston, West Virginia, dedicated to providing comprehensive skin care services to patients of all ages. The practice offers a range of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology treatments, supported by a team focused on quality care and patient satisfaction. As the Certified Medical Assistant, you will support dermatology providers by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative assistance to ensure an efficient and positive patient experience. In this role, you will prepare patients for examinations, assist with dermatologic procedures, and document patient interactions through scribing and electronic medical records. You will also manage scheduling tasks, coordinate patient care, and communicate effectively with both front and back office teams. The ideal candidate brings dermatology experience, strong technical proficiency with clinical systems, and a commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and maintaining patient confidentiality in a fast-paced environment. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical history, and updating records in the electronic health system 

  • Assist providers during dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, excisions, and cosmetic treatments 

  • Set up, clean, and maintain exam rooms, ensuring proper sterilization of instruments and equipment 

  • Educate patients on treatment plans, skincare routines, medications, and post-procedure care instructions 

  • Administer medications, injections, and topical treatments as directed by the provider 

  • Perform basic clinical tasks such as wound care, dressing changes, and specimen collection 

  • Schedule appointments, coordinate follow-up visits, and manage patient flow throughout the day 

  • Handle prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies as needed 

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and clinic standards 

  • Support front office functions when needed, including answering phones, checking patients in/out, and verifying information 

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and HIPAA regulations 

  • Stock and monitor medical supplies, reporting inventory needs to maintain clinic readiness 

  • Other duties as assigned  

  

Qualifications  

  • Certified as a Medical Assistant (CMA or equivalent credential required) 

  • 3–5 years of recent experience in a dermatology setting 

  • Strong proficiency using tablet devices (e.g., iPad) in a clinical environment 

  • Experience working with dermatology-specific electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including EMA/EMMA software 

  • Skilled in medical scribing and accurately documenting provider-patient interactions in real time 

  • Ability to manage appointment scheduling tasks, including rescheduling and coordinating patient visits 

  • Experience sending electronic prescriptions (e-prescribing) in accordance with clinical protocols 

  • Comfortable using internal communication tools to collaborate with providers and back-office staff in real time 

  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism when interacting with patients, providers, and team members 

  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA and privacy regulations 

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting
