The Role in One Line
Why This Role Is Different
This is a hands-on, high-trust seat at a growing professional services firm. You’ll own the numbers and the people systems, and you’ll have real room to build, simplify, and improve. If you’re energized by ambiguity, allergic to bureaucracy, and quietly proud of being the person who just figures it out — keep reading.
Who Thrives Here
- Startup-capable. You’ve operated where there’s no playbook and no big team — and you build the playbook as you go.
- A master of your craft. Deep enough in accounting to be trusted with every dollar, sharp enough in operations to be trusted with everything else.
- Genuinely flexible. You move between a GL reconciliation and an employee relations conversation without missing a beat.
- A finisher. You don’t hand off problems — you close them out.
- Trusted by default. Polished, discreet, and steady. People and partners alike rely on your judgment.
What You’ll Own
Finance — the foundation
- Run day-to-day accounting end to end: GL, AP/AR, payroll, and a clean month-end close.
- Produce monthly financials, reporting packages, and budget-to-actual analysis leadership can actually use.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting; manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financial controls.
- Keep the firm audit-ready and compliant; partner with external CPA/auditors.
People & Operations — the multiplier
- Own the employee lifecycle: onboarding, personnel records, employee relations, and the day-to-day that keeps people supported.
- Keep the firm compliant with employment law and grounded in HR best practices.
- Run office operations, vendors, and facilities so the team can focus on their work, not the logistics.
- Spot the broken processes and fix them — you’re the connective tissue across departments.
Strategy & the Board — the trust
- Serve as Secretary to the Board of Directors; prepare board materials and financial reporting.
- Partner directly with executive leadership on the calls that shape where the firm goes next.
What You Bring
Must-haves
- 3+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller-level or senior responsibilities.
- Strong technical accounting (GAAP) you can stand behind.
- Real experience carrying HR and administrative responsibilities — not just adjacent to them.
- A track record of thriving in small or mid-sized organizations where adaptability and initiative are the job.
- The organizational range to juggle many priorities and drop none.
Nice-to-haves
- Professional services, consulting, or law firm experience (a Firm Administrator background is a strong fit).
- Experience supporting executive leadership and/or board reporting.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of $85,000 – $120,000, depending on experience.
- Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), PTO, FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, and EAP.
