Part Time Accountant for cleantech manufacturing company in Seattle

Job ID: 25543
Salary/Pay Rate: $38.00-$47.00/hr
Location: Remote (must sit in Washington State within an hour from Seattle office)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire  
Schedule: Monday – Friday, part time 20-30 hours per week
 
Our client is a Seattle-based clean technology company that develops advanced membrane solutions for industrial wastewater treatment and water reuse. Their technology helps manufacturers in industries like semiconductors, metal finishing, and EV battery production clean and recycle difficult wastewater streams more efficiently. As the Accountant, you will oversee full-cycle accounting operations to support the financial health and day-to-day operations of the organization. This role is responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, manufacturing cost accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance. You will collaborate closely with operations and leadership teams to monitor financial performance, improve cost efficiency, and streamline accounting processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced small to mid-sized business environment.

Position Summary:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Perform manufacturing cost accounting activities, including job costing, inventory tracking, and variance analysis to support operational efficiency.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll through Gusto while ensuring compliance with federal and state payroll regulations, tax withholdings, employee benefits, and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, ensuring timely reconciliation and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, along with management reports and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring to support financial planning and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and state tax requirements, including sales and use tax filings, payroll tax reporting, and corporate filings.
  • Partner with operations and leadership teams to identify opportunities for cost savings, improve financial processes, and streamline workflows.
  • Support audits and provide requested financial documentation and analysis as needed.
  • Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy and efficiency.



Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting practices, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
  • Experience with manufacturing cost accounting, including job costing, inventory management, and variance analysis.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis and reporting functions.
  • Familiarity with Gusto or other payroll processing systems preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. payroll regulations, including federal and multi-state payroll compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing payroll tax filings, W-2s, 1099s, and related year-end reporting documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs and weekly schedules.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative in a small to mid-sized business environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations and leadership teams.
