Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM

As the Lay Navigator, you will support oncology patients by coordinating appointments, managing referrals, and helping ensure timely access to care. You will serve as a key point of contact for patients, providers, and internal teams while maintaining accurate documentation, supporting efficient workflows, and delivering compassionate, patient-centered service. 

   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Coordinate scheduling for oncology appointments, procedures, and related services. 

  • Manage referral workflows and ensure required documentation is complete. 

  • Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and referral information. 

  • Pre-register patients and support timely access to oncology care. 

  • Communicate appointment details, next steps, and financial responsibilities to patients. 

  • Monitor referral queues and process incoming orders. 

  • Coordinate with providers and internal teams to resolve scheduling or referral issues. 

  • Provide compassionate, professional support to patients throughout the care process. 

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the electronic health record. 

  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow applicable privacy and compliance requirements. 

  • Other duties as assigned   

   

Qualifications   

  • High school diploma or GED required. 

  • 3+ years of healthcare customer service experience preferred. 

  • Experience with patient scheduling, referrals, or care coordination. 

  • Oncology or specialty healthcare experience preferred. 

  • Familiarity with Epic or a similar electronic health record system preferred. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 

  • Proficiency with computers and standard office technology. 

  • Ability to handle confidential patient information with professionalism and discretion.
